What This Will Be?

The short answer? I don’t know. I tried doing the “posting mini sermons for a different audience” thing, and that got a bit boring. I tried doing a systematic theology for non-Christians, but that got overwhelming, especially since I came up on time to write my final doctoral paper. I’ll eventually get back to that one. But for now, this is just kind of here. It’s a chance to explore what it may look like to have an online not-church, for not-church people. Whatever that may look like. So, enjoy? We’ll see what happens.

Who Is Jesus?

Welcome to Pastor Recoil’s Parish, where I talk about some things that you may not have heard about in church, either because it’s not quite appropriate for all audiences or it just isn’t something that’s easy to talk about in a sermon. Today we’re talking about another of the big questions in Christianity: Who is Jesus?

Pastor Recoil’s Parish – Season 3 Update

Welcome to Pastor Recoil’s Parish, where I talk about things you may not have heard about in church, either because it’s not quite appropriate for all audiences or it just isn’t something that’s easy to talk about in a sermon.

There’s going to be some changes around the channel for season 3. Trying to do weekly videos while balancing my day job as an actual pastor, as well as the doctoral program which is reaching the “very long paper writing” stage, meant this channel started to feel more like work than fun, and I didn’t enjoy it any more. I already have content that I have to create pretty much every week, so having another deadline hanging over my head just added stress I didn’t need.

Because of this, instead of weekly videos, I’m going to aim to do one video a month that’s a little more in depth on specific topics within Christian theology, whether doctrines or practices, or just about anything else — whatever catches my interest that I hope might also be interesting to you. Feel free to leave something in the comments if there’s a topic you’ve been wondering about that you’d like to see addressed.

So if you want to see content like this, click on the subscribe button so you’ll know when my next video comes out, and if I’ve really earned it, turn on notifications with that little bell. Thank you for watching, and take the time this week to love your neighbor as yourself, especially if you don’t like them all that much.

Pastor Recoil’s Parish is on YouTube!

I should have announced this quite a while ago, but we have a YouTube channel! Head on over to Pastor Recoil’s Parish, where I post weekly “homilies” that go a little harder than I would in Sunday morning church. Sometimes that’s just making explicit a message that I have to say implicitly for a congregation. Other times that’s because there’s something about the reading that might be “offensive” or “adult. So if you feel like it, head on over to the channel and subscribe!

Truth and Consequences

This post is about 6 months in the making, because in large part because of its content. I keep thinking about “truth”. I especially think about truth in the context of our culture, one often referred to as being “post-truth”. Unfortunately, this post-truth culture is increasingly problematic for Christians, though not necessary for the reasons we Christians might think.

Something New … or maybe just something

It’s high time I start actually being on here more. This blog has been sitting here mostly unused for the past 5 or so years. It used to be where I post all my sermons, but since I started actually having audio of those, there’s not a lot of reason to post to manuscripts here. I tried making it a couple of other things along the way, but nothing really worked.

So I’m going to try to do something I do well (or, if not well, at least often): ramble on about theology, ministry, Christology, and other sorts of Christian-ologies.
